How Eaton Meets UL 268 7th Edition

Effective from 30^th June 2024, the UL 268 7^th Edition standards mandate that smoke detectors become better suited to the fabric of modern buildings. To ensure that this is the case, Underwriters Laboratories (UL) require that detectors have greater:

• resilience to nuisance alarm sources, such as cooking activities
• sensitivity to smouldering polyurethane foam (a fast-burning material used in many modern furnishings, such as mattresses and upholstered fixtures)

To address this change in standards, Eaton has developed a new range of addressable smoke detectors capable of fulfilling UL’s latest performance requirements. Available later this year, these sophisticated devices will be available in two detector technologies, optical and photo-thermal, as well as four branding variants, Eaton, Cooper, JSB, and Menvier.

Eaton have manufactured a stock of UL 268 6^th Edition detector models (UL optical, photo-thermal & heat addressable detector range) prior to the 30^th June effective date; these models are still available to buy, and will serve to provide a smooth transition period for our customers.
